Prop talk: 50 + Years and Three Generations at Anchor Boats

Discover the Joy of Boating in Cecil County's Vast Waterfront

With over 200 miles of pristine waterfront in Cecil County, boating enthusiasts find their haven of pleasure right here. For the Trainers of North East, this picturesque waterway has been the nurturing grounds of a thriving family business since the 1970s.

It all began with the vision of Ed "Butch" Trainer, who first opened a quaint sporting goods shop along Route 272, the gateway to North East. This small shop offered hunting and fishing supplies, as well as an assortment of guns and compact aluminum boats.

As the demand grew, Butch expanded his offerings to include larger vessels. In 1973, he decided to close the original shop and opened the doors to Anchor Boats just down the street. Around 1980, the Anchor Marina was unveiled in the North East Harbor. Today, these two businesses stand strong as a third-generation family venture, expertly managed by Butch's sons, Edward and Matt, who oversee day-to-day operations.

Marina Houses Over 400 Boats

The other half of the family business, Anchor Marina, is located on Iroquois Drive in the North East Harbors across from the town park. The dry dock storage buildings, often called boatels or "high and dry," house nearly 400 boats. The marina also has 15 boat slips, eight of them equipped with lifts. Floating docks for public daytime use house another 50 to 60 boats. The marina also has public restrooms, a pump-out station, gas service, a boat ramp, and a fully stocked parts and accessory store. For those seeking refreshment, the Nauti Goose Saloon, right next door, offers a delightful menu of meals and snacks for hungry boaters.
